No more heroes at Halliwells

Questionable management, delusions of grandeur, overpaid and overrated...
Not the England football team this time. No, while those particular lifeless sacks of disappointment come home to the welcome they deserve, these familiar criticisms are being levelled at those who ran North West firm Halliwells.
In particular, the firm's 'golden generation' of equity partners, who - like a Mancunian Fabio Capello - have repaid their supporters with an early exit. In this case by taking the firm into administration (see
story <http://tre.emv3.com/HS?a=DNX7CkLKSD4Z8SA9MOOr4tjnGHxKRzCMrA_B> ) prior to an acquisition by Hill Dickinson.
The partners blame "high property costs", presumably referring to a 2007 move into an upmarket base camp in Manchester, where - like a WAG's mock Tudor mansion in Cheshire - the expensive taste suitably reflected their own opinion of themselves.
The equity partners then distributed a £21m property-related windfall among themselves, with only a fraction finding its way back into the business.
A decision that shall subsequently be known as the "Heskey".
The firm's loyal supporters, some 813 staff, will want a post mortem into why anyone thought this was a good idea (judging by the comments on TheLawyer.com <http://tre.emv3.com/HS?a=DNX7CkLKSD4Z8SA9MOOr4tjnGHxKRzCMrQ_A> , some think a live autopsy would be more appropriate).
But their first task will be finding out if they still have a job when the process is over.
England fans should look on the bright side. At least their team didn't score an own goal.
