Tax Matters

Latest Tax Alerts

header_business_2.jpg

Dear Andrew,

Welcome to this month's Tax Alerts.

With the first coalition budget looming and the first £6bn of savings announced, it is doubtful that there can be much good news to report.

CGT is going up: it is just a question of by how much and when? Prevention is about taking positive decisions now. VAT is going up but no one will talk about it; how much and when? Well, my guess is 2.5% staged part now and part in January. It will not help inflation figures but it does help the finances. Also, expect the list of exempt or zero rated goods to fall –by broadening the base you increase the tax take further – circa £16bn per annum.

Enjoy the rest of this as best you can... you may need a stiff drink before duty goes up again!!
